Active listening activities

Focus this week on active listening. Active listening includes more than a child hearing what is said. Active listeners look at the speaker, acknowledge when the speaker is talking, and respond to the speaker. Teach your child to look at people in the eyes when they are speaking. After you have given directions or asked a question, check to be sure your child understood what was said by asking follow-up questions. Practicing active listening is polite and helps children take in as much information as possible!
