Making predictions

Focus this week on making predictions. Helping children to analyze a story and come up with their own idea of what is coming next is a good indicator of their understanding of the story. The child’s listening skills can also be assessed during these types of activities. If the child is able to make a reasonable prediction, they are actively listening, engaging in, and understanding the text being read. Be sure to model making predictions in everyday life. For example, “What do you think will happen if I forget to tie my shoes? I think I might fall.”
