Phonics and initial sounds

This week’s lessons focus on phonics and initial word sounds. Helping your child to understand that each letter in the alphabet has a name and a sound is an initial step in building their phonics knowledge. When beginning to work on letter sounds, start with consonants as these letters each have one sound. Show your child a ball. Say the word ball. Spell the word and underline the first letter. Lay out other items and ask him to choose the items that start with a B.
