This week’s lessons will focus on counting. Four-year-olds are getting better with oral counting and their ability to count with one-to-one correspondence is improving. The best way to help further these skills is to provide opportunities for hands-on practice. Start collecting small items for counting practice and place them in plastic stacking tubs. Old buttons, plastic “jewels” found in floral departments, pieces to old games, small silk flowers and poker chips are great to keep around for counting practice (and many other math concepts like matching and sorting).
