Oral language skills

This week the activities will focus on developing oral language skills. Strong oral language skills will assist your child with future reading success. The best way to help your child in this area is to read every day! Ask lots of questions before, during and after a story. For example, before reading Little Red Riding Hood look at the cover. Ask, “Who do you thing Red is waving to? Why do you think she has a basket? What might be in that basket?” During the story ask questions like, “Do you think she is scared? What would you do if a wolf talked to you?” After you can ask “Do you think Red will walk in the woods alone again?”
