This week’s lessons will focus on number recognition. It is important that your 5 year old learns to recognize numerals and print numerals. A child will only learn these skills with practice and lots of exposure! This week you will see fun, hands-on activities that provide your child opportunities to form numerals. Also, for children who are having difficulty holding a pencil the correct way, there are opportunities for fine motor practice as well (strengthening little hand muscles makes it easier to hold writing instruments). Note: it is very “normal” for 5 year olds to reverse numerals as they learn to write them (particularly “2” and “5”). If you see such reversals, don’t panic! Just continue to model the correct way to print numbers.
