Poetry week

This week’s lessons will focus on promoting literacy through poetry. Poetry provides your child with the opportunity to practice fluency skills, imagery skills, and comprehension skills as well as exposure to new vocabulary. Poetry is often short, so it keeps a young reader’s attention. And, it’s different! Poetry is an often welcomed break from chapter books and typical 10 year old content material. Explore various types of poetry with your child. If you don’t have extra time to visit the library, search the internet for kid-friendly poetry sites. If you are having trouble finding a poetry type that your child enjoys, try the funny poems. And, don’t forget that music is a poetry form that is very easy to attain!
