Vocabulary building

This week’s lessons will focus on building your child’s vocabulary. Most of the words your child has learned and will learn come from everyday encounters with language. Simply talking with your child can increase your child’s vocabulary and background knowledge-two very important components to reading. Beginning readers use what they already know about words to help them make sense of what they are reading. Children who know many words and word meanings are better able to comprehend what they are reading or listening to.
