Early comprehension skills can be practiced while reading, watching a movie and even watching TV. Talk to your child about what they are listening to, or viewing, and ask them questions. Who was that show about? What was the problem in that movie? Or, after reading a story ask your child to draw a picture of the main character. Talk about what setting means and ask them include the setting in their picture. These simple activities, and more, challenge your child to think critically while also building comprehension skills.
