Retelling information

This week the focus will be on retelling story information. Try to expose your child to a variety of literature, including fiction and non-fiction texts. While many children prefer fiction, there are some great non-fiction books available. Checking your child’s comprehension skills can be done outside of reading time. Ask them about a movie they saw or a television show to check for understanding. Read a book together. After reading, ask your child to tell you 3 things from the story: the characters, setting and problem. These are just a few ideas for working on retelling and comprehension.
